Motorcycles and bicycles

The London Local Authorities and Transport for London Act 2008, has given new powers to all London boroughs, to issue parking tickets to vehicles (ie motorcycles, scooters) parked on the footpath in alleyways.

The Act also gives powers to:

  • allow civil enforcement officers and any other authorised council officers to remove anything obstructing the vehicles’ number plate.  This is to enable them to issue any appropriate penalty charge notice (parking ticket);
  • recover the removal cost of a wheel clamp when someone has taken it off the vehicle illegally.

From Monday 22 September 2008, the City of London Corporation began issuing penalty charge notices to vehicles that are parked on footways in alleyways irrespective of ownership.

Motor cycles and scooters can be parked in all of the off-street public car parks in the City of London. Motor cycle and scooter parking is free in the public car parks operated by the City of London Corporation and costs £4 per day in the public car parks operated by National Car Parks Ltd (NCP).
