Founders’ Sculpture Prize 2008/9
Summer 2009
After a very successful inaugural competition in 2006/7,
culminating in a display at the Victoria & Albert Museum, the
winning sculpture and the finalists’ maquettes from this year’s
competition will be on display in summer 2009 at Guildhall Art
Gallery.
The 2008/9 Prize, with a £5,000 award and a bronze cast of the
winning sculpture, is aimed at figurative sculptors in the first
ten years of their sculpting careers, and in particular at
figurative sculpture based on the human form.
As before, the Prize is sponsored by the Worshipful Company of
Founders, the Gilbert Bayes Trust, Morris Singer Art Founders and
the Society of Portrait Sculptors.
The winner of the 2006/7 Prize, Sophie Dickens, says: “Winning
the Founders’ Sculpture Prize has given me confidence and a feeling
of credibility. It encouraged me to make a sculpture that was
better than any that I had made previously. The Prize has since
become a benchmark for me to produce work that gives a similar
sense of satisfaction.”

Prize.
