Cleansing Services provide Waste Collection, Waste Disposal,
Street Cleansing and Public Convenience services in accordance with
the requirements of current legislation. Whilst observing the
requirements of legislation Cleansing Services must also meet the
requirements set out in the City of London's Unitary Developement
Plan (UDP).
The current UDP requires that Cleansing
Services meet the following policy commitments:
Policy Com 5
To provide widespread distribution of public
conveniences which efficiently meets public demand and to improve
signposting and access for disabled people.
Policy Util 5
To encourage more sustainable waste management
practices which are based on the best practicable environmental
option for the local circumstances of the City. To encourage
practices which:

reduce waste generation at source

re-use waste for the same or other
purpose

recover value from waste through
recycling

recover energy through waste
incineration
-
move waste by river or rail
Policy Util 6
To require adequate provision within all
developments for the storage, presentation for collection, and
removal of waste, unless exceptional circumstances make it
impractical; to encourage provision to allow for the separate
storage of recyclable waste where appropriate.
