Development Control

The Department of Planning and Transportation processes applications for planning permission and related consents. This section provides information for applicants and for those who wish to comment on current applications or check past planning decisions.

Our service

Planning applications are the subject of negotiation and consultation to ensure that developments enhance the City’s architectural character, whilst providing modern accommodation appropriate to a world financial centre. 99% of applications for planning consent are approved by the City of London within 13 weeks.

Our procedures for public consultation on planning applications are included in our Statement of Community Involvement.

Local Land Charges

Enforcement

Sometimes development is carried out without the necessary consents and the City of London must consider whether to take enforcement action to remedy the breach of control.

Designing out crime

The City Police offer the services of an Architectural Liaison Officer to provide professional risk management advice at the design stage.
