Conservation areas are designated to safeguard areas of special architectural and historic interest.  There are twenty six Conservation Areas in the City.

Conservation Areas in the City of London: A General Introduction to their Character

This book forms the introduction and background to the character of the City’s conservation areas. It analyses the nature of the character of these areas and identifies the factors central to the qualities and identity of the environment of the City of London. The General Introduction is complemented by a series of volumes summarising the individual character of each area.

Conservation area character summaries:

These booklets identify and illustrate the characteristics of, and particular planning considerations within, each conservation area. In conjunction with the "Conservation Areas in the City of London: A General Introduction to their Character", they provide an indication of the factors of importance to the preservation or enhancement of the character and appearance of each conservation area.
