Environment and planning

The City of London seeks to foster the continued development of the Square Mile as a leading international financial and business centre, whilst at the same time improving living, working and travelling conditions and protecting its historic buildings. It works to ensure that its residents and businesses enjoy an environment which is safe and, as far as possible, free from risks to health and welfare. The City of London also owns and manages over 10,000 acres of open spaces in and around London for the recreation and enjoyment of the public and as breathing spaces from built-up developments.
