Primary School Admissions

If your child was born between 1 September 2005 and 31 August 2006, then this is the right time to apply for a Reception class place for September 2010. You can start applying from 1 September 2009. The application deadline for September 2010 Reception class entry is 11 December 2009.

Applications can be made online at www.eadmissions.org.uk, or contact the School Admissions Service on 020 7332 1750 or FYI@cityoflondon.gov.uk for a paper copy of the Common Application Form.

Sir John Cass’s Foundation Primary School is the only maintained primary school in the City. It  is a  voluntary aided, Church of England school, taking pupils aged from 4 - 11 years. Click here for more information about the school.

As well as applying to Sir John Cass's Foundation Primary School, you will be able to apply to other primary schools in other boroughs, where children also get a very good education. More information can be found in the Starting Primary School in 2010 brochure (1.4mb), or contact the Admissions Service on 020 7332 1750 for a printed copy.

If you think you might want to apply for a place at a school in another borough, it is very important that you read the ‘Starting Primary School’ brochure of the local authority where the school is located.

School inspections

Maintained schools
Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) is the government department with responsibility for the inspection of all schools in England. Its role also includes the inspection of local education authorities, teacher training institutions and youth work. Ofsted is also responsible for inspecting and regulation of early years childcare, including childminders.

Independent schools
The purpose of Independent School Inspections is to ensure that standards are maintained and that the school complies with relevant legal requirements. Recommendations are included if needed to help the school improve.

Freedom of Information Act

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives people a general right of access to information held by or on behalf of public authorities. It should create better public understanding of:

  • how public authorities carry out their duties;
  • why they make their decisions;
  • and how they spend public money.

It will also promote a culture of openness and accountability across the public sector. Alternatively every public authority makes some information publicly available already, for example its annual reports, policy documents and financial information. It should describe this information in a publication scheme.

After School Clubs and Holiday Playschemes

A range of courses and activities, some of them suitable for ages 5-11, are offered at Middlesex Street. There is also an after-school club. Click here for more information about After School Clubs and Holiday Playschemes.
