Promoting Financial Services
In the UK the Lord Mayor hosts several hundred meetings and
receptions for a wide range of City-oriented organisations, and
travels to other UK financial centres to keep in touch with
regional activity. The Lord Mayor is often asked to report to
parliamentary groups on business opportunities abroad and on
financial and professional services in the UK.
The Lord Mayor also provides a platform for the Prime Minister,
the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Foreign Secretary, the
Governor of the Bank of England, the Chairman of the Financial
Services Authority and the Mayor of (greater) London to make major
speeches to City business audiences at a number of events during
the year held either at Mansion House or Guildhall.
Head of the City of London Corporation
As head of the City of London Corporation the Lord Mayor is
involved with London-wide issues, from the City of London's work in
the regeneration of neighbouring boroughs, to transport and
environmental issues which affect the City.
Lord Mayor presides over the City of London's
governing bodies – the Court of Aldermen and the Court of
Common Council and hosts and receives hospitality from the
Livery, and participates in charitable projects.
The ethics of modern business, and solutions it
can offer to social problems, are taken very seriously by the City
of London Corporation and are firmly on the Lord Mayor's agenda.
The Lord Mayor often has a chance to address issues around climate
change, corporate responsibility and philanthropy both here and
abroad.

Philanthropy and CSR
Philanthropy and Corporate Social Responsibility is at the heart
of the City of London Corporation’s vision for the City, through
initiatives like Heart of the City and
employee volunteering; and each year the
Lord
Mayor runs a charitable Appeal. The Lord Mayor is also
President or Patron of many civic and charitable organisations. He
has close links with the
Livery Companies of London charitable organisations which set
the stamp of the civic City on the Lord Mayor’s election, and which
donate some £41 million a year to charity. Click here for more
