Accountancy

Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) -The ACCA is the largest international accountancy body with nearly 300,000 members and students in 160 countries. The ACCA conducts research into and comments publicly on a wide range of business, financial and regulatory issues. The Fédération des Experts Comptables Européens (FEE) is the representative organisation for the accountancy profession in Europe. FEE's membership consists of 44 professional institutes of accountants from 32 countries. The International Accounting Standards Board (ISAB) is an independent, privately-funded accounting standard-setter based in London, UK. The IASB is committed to developing, in the public interest, a single set of high quality, understandable and enforceable global accounting standards that require transparent and comparable information in general purpose financial statements. The Association of Foreign Banks (AFB) provides a forum for the sharing of information on industry issues for the mutual benefit of foreign banks operating in and out of the United Kingdom. It offers effective representation to industry, government, regulatory bodies and other peer group associations to ensure the attainment of international best practice. Bank for International Settlements - For general research into the global banking trends, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) publishes regular working papers and statistics.

The Banker maintains a comprehensive database on the global banking industry, including an analysis of the foreign owned banks operating in London. Visit the Banker site.

British Bankers' Association - The British Bankers' Association (BBA) provides a summary statistics page detailing number of banks in UK, transaction volumes, deposits etc. In addition, the BBA conducts its own primary research into specific banking issues pertaining to regulation (Basel, EU regulation, markets).

European Banking Federation (FBE) - The united voice of the banks of the European Union (EU) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries, the FBE represents the interests of some 3,000 banks, with total assets of more than 10,000 billion euros. The International Capital Market Association (ICMA) - The self-regulatory organisation and trade association representing the investment banks and securities firms issuing, trading and dealing in the international capital markets worldwide. Visit the ICMA site.

London Investment Banking Association - LIBA is the principal trade association in the United Kingdom for firms which are active in the investment banking and wholesale securities industry. Exchanges

Alternative Investment Market (AIM) - AIM is the London Stock Exchange’s global market for smaller, growing companies, primarily concerned with raising earlier stage capital. It is operated, regulated and promoted by the LSE. Since AIM opened in 1995, more than 2,300 companies have been admitted. Collectively, these companies have raised more than £16 billion ($28 billion) whilst on AIM. AIM information.

Euronext-LIFFE - LIFFE (London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange) delivers an international electronic trading platform offering global access points to all major financial centres. Trading statistics are available on the LIFFE site.

Federation of European Securities Exchanges (FESE) - Federation of European Securities Exchanges provides the most complete source of Statistics from European Securities Exchanges. ICE Futures - IntercontinentalExchange®(NYSE: ICE) operates regulated global futures exchanges and over-the-counter markets for agricultural, energy, equity index and currency contracts, as well as credit derivatives.  ICE conducts its energy futures markets through ICE Futures Europe, its U.K. regulated London-based subsidiary, which offers the world's leading oil benchmarks and trades nearly half of the world's global crude futures in its markets. London Clearing House - Independently owned and governed, the London Clearing House offers a unique range of clearing services from futures to fixed income, and from cash equities to interbank interest rate swaps - acting as sole intermediary on some of the world's leading trading exchanges and over-the-counter marketplaces. London Metal Exchange - The London Metal Exchange (LME) is the world's premier non-ferrous metals market. Its main functions are to provide a daily price for metals, to provide futures and traded options contracts and to act as a deliverer of last resort by authorising warehouses to store approved brands of metal. London Stock Exchange - The London Stock Exchange (LSE) is one of the world's leading equity exchanges and a leading provider of services that facilitate the raising of capital and the trading of shares. The LSE is the most international of all stock exchanges, with more than 630 companies from over 56 countries admitted to trading on its markets. Statistics are available on the LSE website.

Main Market - The Main Market is the London Stock Exchange's senior, global market for more mature companies that not only need to maximise their capital-raising efforts, but also their international profile and liquidity in their shares. Although operated and promoted by the LSE, the Main Market is regulated by the Financial Services Authority. This separate regulatory function is essential in encouraging investor confidence. Only Main Market companies can access the FTSE UK series of indices that includes the FTSE 100. There are over 1,600 companies admitted to the Main Market, with a total market value of over £4,300 billion ($7,654 billion). PLUS Markets Group (PMG) is an independent UK provider of primary and secondary equity market services and currently trades over 800 small and mid-cap company shares, representing a combined market capitalisation of over £145 billion. Its primary market specialises in smaller companies, domestic and international, representing a wide range of sectors and all stages of development. techMARK - The London Stock Exchange's community of Main Market companies that can demonstrate an ongoing commitment to innovation through research and development. techMARK companies include those more mature companies that invest heavily in R&D and pioneer developments in technology and healthcare. International Financial Services London - IFSL is an independent cross-sectoral organisation representing the UK financial services industry. It compiles reports and statistics that raise awareness of the size and importance of London and the UK as an international financial centre.

International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) - The global trade association which represents leading participants in the privately negotiated derivatives industry, a business which includes interest rate, currency, commodity, credit and equity swaps, as well as related products such as caps, collars, floors and swaptions. Fund management

The European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA) is the representative association for the European investment management industry. Investment Management Association (IMA) - The IMA represents the UK unit trust and investment management industry. The IMA was formed on 1 February 2002 when the Association of Unit Trusts and Investment Funds (AUTIF) and the Fund Managers Association (FMA) merged to establish a new association. Government authorities / agencies

Cabinet Office Strategy Unit - The Unit was set up in 2002, bringing together the Performance and Innovation Unit (PIU) and the Prime Minister's Forward Strategy Unit (FSU) to improve the Government's capacity to address long term and/or cross-cutting strategic issues and to promote innovation in policy development and the delivery of the Government's objectives. Export Credits Guarantee Department (ECGD) - The Export Credits Guarantee Department, is the UK's official export credit agency. Greater London Authority - The Greater London Authority is not a traditional local authority providing a range of public services, but under the direction of the Mayor, exists to provide strategic direction for the future of London. London Development Agency (LDA) - The London Development Agency is London's business-led economic development agency, working with the Mayor to deliver the economic aspects of a programme for renewal. It aims to further the economic development and regeneration of London by promoting business efficiency, investment and competitiveness, enhancing and developing the skills of local people and contributing to sustainable development.

London First - London First was established in the early 1990s as a vehicle to mobilise business leaders to improve and promote London. Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) - The CII Library Online directory is a unique source of technical and market information on insurance, risk and related financial services. The City of London Law Society (CLLS) - The professional representative body for solicitors and law firms in the City. Visit the CLLS site.

Financial Markets Law Committee - The role of the Financial Markets Law Committee is to identify issues of legal uncertainty, or misunderstanding, present and future, in the framework of the wholesale financial markets which might give rise to material risks, and to consider how such issues should be addressed. Management Consultancies Association (MCA) - Formed in 1956, the MCA represents the leading management consulting firms in the UK, which currently employ over 20,000 consultants. Management consultancy is an increasingly important industry for the UK economy with revenues for 2000 estimated at £7bn, contributing over £1bn to the UK balance of payments. The Baltic Exchange - The only established and self-regulated global market place for shipbrokers, the Baltic Exchange provides an online exchange for ships and cargoes, real time freight derivative trading and freight market data.

Lloyd's Maritime Intelligence Unit - Lloyd's Marine Intelligence Unit has identified 14 key data tables to serve the needs of the global shipping market. Their integrated database of movements, casualties, characteristics and machinery details unique in the shipping world.

Nautical Institute - The Nautical Institute aims to promote and co-ordinate nautical studies world-wide by promoting high standards of qualification, competence and knowledge among those on or concerned with the sea. The British Council for Offices (BCO) - The BCO's mission is to research, develop and communicate best practice in all aspects of the office sector. It delivers this by providing a forum for the discussion and debate of relevant issues. Please click here for BCO research.

City of London Planning Information - Planning information publications provide a range of statistical and diagrammatic information covering development activities, employment and demographic trends, land use, and policy performance.

The City Property Advisory Team (CPAT) produces a quarterly digest report tracking key aspects of the City office property market based upon a round-up of City agents' own quarterly reports. Regulation

Bank of England - The BofE website has information about financial markets and stability. The bank complies domestic banking statistics, monetary statistics including the main UK monetary aggregates (M0 and M4), external finance statistics - including balance of payments data and figures for the UK's gold and foreign currency reserves, and international banking statistics.

The Committee of European Banking Supervisors (CEBS) gives advice to the European Commission on banking policy issues and promotes co-operation and convergence of supervisory practice across the European Union. CEIOPS is the Committee of European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Supervisors. It is composed of high level representatives from the insurance and occupational pensions supervisory authorities of the European Union's Member States. International Labour Organisation (ILO) - For international employment / unemployment statistics collated by the ILO, visit the ILO site.

International Monetary Fund (IMF) - An international organisation of 184 member countries, the IMF was established to promote international monetary co-operation, exchange stability, and orderly exchange arrangements, to foster economic growth and high levels of employment, and to provide temporary financial assistance to countries to help ease balance of payments adjustment. Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) - The OECD groups 30 member countries sharing a commitment to democratic government and the market economy. The OECD plays a prominent role in fostering good governance in the public service and in corporate activity. It is well known for its individual country surveys and reviews. United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) - Established in 1964 as a permanent intergovernmental body, UNCTAD is the principal organ of the United Nations General Assembly dealing with trade, investment and development issues. World Bank - The World Bank Group is one of the world's largest sources of development assistance. It provides a World Development Indicators database for all countries covering demographics, economy, trade, infrastructure, environment etc. Click here for the UK data profile .

World Trade Organisation (WTO) - The only global international organisation dealing with the rules of trade between nations. At its heart are the WTO agreements, negotiated and signed by the bulk of the world’s trading nations and ratified in their parliaments. Transport

London City Airport - The London City Airport Consultative Committee provides statistical information on a wide range of subjects, including air transport movements, number / profiles of passengers and growth statistics.

Transport for London (TfL) produces publications relating to travel in London covering all the major transport modes. Click here to access the TfL publications.

Transport Statistics Great Britain (TSGB) is a major publication within the scope of the Office for National Statistics and provides an accurate, comprehensive and meaningful picture of transport patronage in Great Britain.
